Twisting her hat, smiling up at him and seemingly lost in the moment, the 23-year-old pop star looked every bit enamored as she lingered in close conversation with her tall, dark-haired companion.

The flirtatious encounter in June came just weeks after she was spotted on a low-key date at a Brooklyn wine bar – with what sources now believe was the same man.

It also follows Rodrigo quietly turning the page on her romance with actor Louis Partridge, barely making a sound as the relationship fizzled late last year. No dramatic statements, no cryptic posts – just a swift reset that left fans piecing things together in real time.

And according to a Daily Mail source, that sense of mystique is very much intentional.

‘She’s been pretty reserved and coy about what’s going on in her love life,’ the insider said, adding: ‘It definitely seems like she’s found someone new. She’s been smitten and extra smiley.’

Now, the man behind her smile – the same one from the video and the wine bar date – appears to have a name.

Internet sleuths quickly identified him as Julian Croonenberghs – and unlike Partridge, he’s not from the Hollywood set.

Instead, he comes from a more low-key, finance-meets-Ivy League world. A Brown University graduate, Croonenberghs works as a private equity ᴀssociate and reportedly comes from a well-connected banking family. 

He also has an athletic past, having played field hockey for the U.S. men’s national team between 2018 and 2020.

The pairing may seem like a pivot – but insiders say it fits a broader pattern. 

‘She doesn’t always date someone famous – she mixes it up,’ the source explained. 

‘It’s normally whoever she gets along with and has chemistry with and, of course, is someone she’s attracted to.’

And while Rodrigo has yet to publicly confirm the relationship, she may have already hinted at the shift in her romantic preferences.

While the love triangle was never officially confirmed or denied, all three have since addressed the fallout, with Rodrigo saying she and Carpenter are on good terms, Carpenter speaking out about the intense scrutiny she faced, and Bᴀssett reflecting on the social media backlash. 

Since rising to superstardom, her dating history has included producer Adam Faze in 2021 and DJ Zack Bia in 2022.

So much for ‘normal.’
